SUPERFIX Joined By SINISSTAR Guitarist

September 5, 2002

SUPERFIX, the Los Angeles-based act featuring former DRAIN STH drummer Martina Axen (who handles lead vocals in the new group) and bassist Anna Kjellberg, are strongly rumored to have been joined by SINISSTAR guitarist China in the band's current line-up. The group, which also recently recruited an as-yet-undisclosed drummer, performed a showcase gig at Hollywood, California's S.I.R. studios on August 28th.

It is not presently clear if China will commit himself to SUPERFIX on a full-time basis or of he will remain a member of SINISSTAR, who released their debut album, Future Shock, through Fred Durst's Flawless Records earlier in the summer.

When recently asked by Nuclear Grind to name any other musician that she would like to become a member of SUPERFIX, Kjellberg stated: "I would pick China, the guitar player from SINISSTAR. He's a great guitar player, looks great on stage, and is really a nice guy, from what I hear. He would fit perfectly in this band."

In the same interview, Anna revealed, for the first time, the circumstances behind DRAIN STH's untimely split and the decision to launch SUPERFIX.

"The decision to break up DRAIN STH came in the beginning of 2000," Kjellberg said. "It was a hard decision, and both me and Martina were pretty heartbroken that the band we had lived and breathed for so many years was gone. Yet we had to get over it and move on. First of all, we fired everybody we had been working with up to that point, except our lawyer. Record labels, publishing, managers, all of them had to go, we wanted a fresh start, and more importantly, competent people. But that turned out to be easier said than done, and Martina and I ended up spending eight months fighting with our Swedish label MNW to get out of that deal. They wanted to keep us and have the rights for future projects, but we wanted out at any cost because they'd fucked things up for us for so many years. The same day we signed the final agreement and we were free to go, we bought plane tickets to L.A., and moved here shortly after that. Since then, we've been writing and recording songs, got ourselves the best manager in the world, Tim Dralle and Full-On Management, and we've recently started to work with our very good friend [Dave] 'Snake' Sabo (SKID ROW) who has a studio here in Hollywood where we have full access to record as much as we need… SUPERFIX is going great and I hope we'll have an album out shortly so we can go back out on the road were we belong!!"

With regards to the decision by Martina to step out front and assume the lead vocal duties in the new band, Anna said: "When DRAIN STH broke up, we knew we wanted to go on and do something else. Martina always wanted to sing — she wrote most of the melodies and lyrics for DRAIN, but didn't get to sing the songs herself — so now, when we could do whatever we wanted, she was given the choice. During the long fight with our label in Sweden, we made the outlines for SUPERFIX, and started to write songs in secret, because we didn't want the label to know we were up to something new, since that would have made them fight even harder to keep us."
